The Weight Lifting Foundation
The Weight Lifting Foundation is a charity established almost twenty years ago to assist the development of youth weightlifting in the UK and the Channel Islands. We are dedicated to helping young (under 23) lifters improve their performances and thus fulfil their potential both in training and in competition. We consider all applications on their merits. There are three main ways in which we provide support:
Individual Grants
We give one-off grants to individual lifters who have achieved either a Personal Best in an international competition or a British record in a British National competition. Since 2013 we have awarded over three thousand pounds in grants to young lifters whose names will be familiar to everyone involved in the sport. These include:
  • Skip Callard (5 British records and PB at European Youth Championships)
  • Scoop Callard (British record and PB at European Youth Championships)
  • Amber Shepherd (5 awards including PB at International)
  • Mercy Brown (PBs at Junior and Senior Worlds, European Juniors International Grand Prix, British records)
  • Jennifer-Ellen Tong (British records and PB at European Juniors)
  • Jordon Sakkas (PB at European Youths & U23s)
  • Ellie Pryor (PB at Internationals including Commonwealth Youth and European Cup)
Full details of how to apply are set out in the Personal Best Application, together with contact details if you need more information.
Revenue Funding
We recognise that the costs of competing, particularly in international events, can be hefty. We can help with these by contributing towards travel and accommodation expenses. Mercy Brown and Amber Shepherd are two lifters we have been able to assist in the past. We have also assisted young lifters via British Weightlifting with grants over a three year period. Application for Revenue Funding. Contact details are included if more information is required.
Capital Funding
If a club needs to upgrade its equipment and/or improve its facilities, then we may be able to assist with the costs and we have contributed over £41,000 in the last 6 years. Please note that we do not fund property enhancements including building works. Clubs which have been successful in their applications include Europa and Pegasus Weightlifting Clubs, St. Augustine’s Academy, Oaklands School, Brunel University and Stars of the Future Weightlifting.
